Depositing items on the road allowance is unsightly and can create a hazard to people travelling the road. It is an offense to obstruct ditches or culverts in any manner or deposit stones, brush, rubbish or refuse on any road allowance.
If done, you are in contravention of Township of Blandford-Blenheim By-law Number 455-82, which states "No person shall deposit stones, brush, rubbish or refuse in ditches or elsewhere in Township Road Allowances without written approval from the Township Road Authority. "
The Highway Traffic Act states "No person shall deposit stones, brush, rubbish or refuse on a roadway without permission in writing so to do from the Ministry or the road authority responsible for the maintenance of the road'' . R.5.0. 1990, c. H.8, s. 181.
Note this offense has a fine. You may also be charged for the cost of the cleanup.
