Purple Bench Project: Blandford-Blenheim
We warmly invite you to the unveiling of the Purple Bench at Drumbo Park on November 20 at 3:20 pm. The ceremony will take place at 41 Centre Street, Drumbo, ON, by the splash pad.
The Purple Bench is a meaningful addition to our park, symbolizing our community’s commitment to raising awareness about domestic violence and supporting survivors. This bench serves as a reminder of our dedication to creating a safe, inclusive environment where everyone feels respected and protected. By placing this visible symbol in a public space, we hope to spark important conversations, offer comfort, and encourage those impacted to seek help.
Background on the Purple Bench Project
The Purple Bench campaign began in Nova Scotia, inspired by a woman who, while in an abusive relationship, found solace by sitting on park benches. In her memory, her family initiated this campaign to raise awareness of gender-based violence.
In Oxford County, this campaign is being organized collaboratively by DASO, Ingamo, and DART to increase awareness and help prevent gender-based violence. A total of eight benches, generously donated by Maglin, will be installed throughout the county, including in Woodstock, Ingersoll, Tillsonburg, East-Zorra Tavistock, Norwich, Blandford-Blenheim, South-West Oxford, and Zorra. Each bench will feature a plaque, offering support and resources to those in need while promoting awareness.
We would be honored to have you join us for this 10- minute unveiling ceremony as we stand together in solidarity for a safer future and reaffirm our township’s commitment to change and compassion.
Thank you,
Trevor Baer
