Statement: Township Gravel Roads
As you may be aware metal contaminants have been found on some of the gravel roads in the Township. Since this discovery, extensive remediation has been undertaken to remove the debris, and this continues to happen. Township staff have begun the fall grading schedule early this year as grading followed by the magnets has proven effective in removing this unwanted material from the roads. There have been positive results from the remediation work and the Township will continue to monitor the roads and complete further work, as necessary. A negative effect of this early road grading is you may see more dust from the roads than you would normally see. This is unfortunate but it’s a tradeoff we feel we need to make.
To date the Township has expended a considerable amount on remediation and we will continue to do what is necessary to return our roads to their high standard. Some of you have also had to spend money to repair damage to your vehicles. We urge you to contact the Township office with details of this including the date and approximate location you feel the damage may have occurred and a copy of the bill if available. The Township is obtaining legal advice and are gathering information on the extent of the damages. All information should be sent to gravelroads@blandfordblenheim.ca.
