Fall Watermain Flushing in Plattsville Begins Sept. 22

Back to Search

Oxford County will begin its annual fall watermain flushing program in Plattsville starting Monday, September 22, 2025, running daily from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Flushing helps keep the drinking water system in good shape by pushing water at high speed through watermains and discharging it through hydrants and blow-offs, sediment and mineral build-up are washed away.

What Residents Should Know / What to Expect

  • You may notice discoloured water or sediment during or shortly after flushing. This is not unusual and is a temporary effect.

  • To reduce the chance of discoloured water entering your plumbing:

    • Before flushing begins, set aside water for cooking, drinking, and other essential uses.

    • Delay tasks that use water (laundry, dishwashing, etc.) until flushing in your area is complete.

  • After flushing in your area is complete, if your water is discoloured, run cold water taps (outside ones or laundry faucets work well) until the water clears.

  • If you still have discoloured water two hours after flushing, or if you notice low water pressure or no water, contact Oxford County Public Works:
    Phone: 1-800-755-0394 ext. 3915
    Email: publicworks@oxfordcounty.ca
