Snow Safety Message
02/21/2025
Safety Reminder:
The Township’s Public Works team has noticed children playing in snowbanks near the roadways and at the end of laneways. While winter play can be a fun, we want to remind all parents and guardians that this can be extremely dangerous.
Why is it unsafe?
- Visibility Hazards: Snowbanks can obscure drivers’ view of pedestrians, making it difficult for them to see children playing.
- Traffic Risks: Children near the road are at risk of being accidentally struck by vehicles, especially when drivers may not expect people to be in snowbanks or on the edge of the road.
- Unstable Snow: Snow piles can collapse, creating hazards such as hidden objects or the risk of children becoming trapped.
We urge all parents to speak with their children about the dangers of playing near snowbanks, especially at the end of the laneway or near roads. Please help ensure everyone stays safe this winter season by encouraging play in safe, designated areas away from traffic.
Thank you for helping keep our community safe!
