Township of Blandford-Blenheim Becomes Certified Living Wage Employer
The Township of Blandford-Blenheim is proud to announce that it has officially become a certified living wage employer through the Ontario Living Wage Network (OLWN).
At the May 21, 2025, Council meeting, Township representatives received formal recognition and a certificate from OLWN’s Director of Programs and Services, Anne Coleman. This designation makes Blandford-Blenheim the first municipality in Oxford County — and one of only a few in Ontario — to ensure all full-time, part-time, and contract employees receive a local living wage.
A living wage reflects the hourly pay a worker needs to cover basic expenses and participate in their community. For the London-Oxford-Elgin region, this rate is currently set at $19.50 per hour, which is higher than Ontario’s minimum wage of $17.20 per hour.
With most Township positions already meeting or exceeding this rate, Council supported a wage increase for crossing guards and summer student roles to align with the living wage standard.
By adopting this commitment, Blandford-Blenheim aims to strengthen employee well-being, improve staff recruitment and retention, and set a strong example for the broader community.
“Council and staff were proud to take this step,” said Mayor Mark Peterson. “Ensuring fair compensation is an important investment in the people who serve our Township every day.”
The Township now joins the growing network of municipalities and organizations across Ontario who recognize that fair wages are integral to building healthy, vibrant communities.
