Truth and Reconciliation Week and Flag Raising

Back to Search

Monday marked the start of Truth and Reconciliation Week (September 22โ€“26, 2025), a time to honour the children who never returned home, as well as the Survivors of residential schools, their families, and communities. It precedes the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation on Tuesday, September 30, a day to remember these tragic events, reflect on their lasting impact, and reaffirm our commitment to reconciliation.

In Blandford-Blenheim, the Township is recognizing the occasion through the following activities:

  • The Every Child Matters flag has been raised at the Township Administration Office in honour of Truth and Reconciliation Week and to mark the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.

  • Information and resources will be shared on Township channels to support learning, reflection, and action in our community.

Community members are also encouraged to explore the many programs and resources offered by Oxford County, including:

  • The Long Road Back: Bringing Percy Home โ€“ a memorial exhibit at the Oxford County Administration Building, on display until October 6.

  • Indigenous artwork on loan from the Woodstock Art Gallery, displayed in County Council Chambers from September 23โ€“30.

  • An Every Child Matters flag raising at the Oxford County Administration Building on September 26 at 9:00 a.m.

  • Curated Truth and Reconciliation reading lists for kids, teens, and adults from Oxford County Library. Explore the lists here.

Please note:

  • The Township of Blandford-Blenheim Administration Office will remain open on Tuesday, September 30.

  • The Oxford County Administration Building, Human Services, and Provincial Offences Administration will be closed on Tuesday, September 30, reopening Wednesday, October 1.

  • The Oxford County Waste Management Facility will remain open, while Paramedic Services, Woodingford Lodge, and Public Works will continue without interruption.

๐Ÿงก As a community, let us take this week to reflect, learn, and strengthen our collective commitment to truth and reconciliation.
