Upcoming Changes to Waste and Recycling Programs in Oxford County
Oxford County residents will soon see significant updates to local waste and recycling services aimed at improving environmental sustainability and waste diversion across the region.
Green Bin Program
A new curbside organics collection program will be introduced to collect food scraps and other biodegradable waste.
-
The program will begin in January 2026 for residents of the Township of South-West Oxford and the City of Woodstock.
-
Remaining municipalities, including the Township of Blandford-Blenheim, will join the program in May 2027.
-
Each participating household will receive a 45-litre curbside green bin and a 7-litre kitchen container for kitchen-scrap collection.
Recycling Program Transition
Effective January 1, 2026, residential recycling services in Oxford County will transition to a new producer responsibility model managed by Circular Materials, a non-profit organization designated to oversee Ontario’s blue box recycling system.
Businesses, institutions, and other non-residential properties currently receiving curbside collection will not be included in this provincial program. To ensure continued service, Oxford County will launch a non-residential recycling collection program beginning the week of January 5, 2026. Eligible participants are required to register with the County.
Service Changes – Missed Collections and Customer Support
As part of the transition to the new system, Oxford County and its municipalities will no longer provide customer service for missed collections or other collection-related issues. Residents will be directed to contact the new service provider directly through the support channels that will be provided closer to implementation.
Residents are reminded to place materials at the curb by 7:00 a.m. on collection day, as collection vehicles will only make one pass per route and cannot guarantee pick-up if materials are set out later.
Benefits of the New System
These updates are designed to:
-
Reduce the amount of waste sent to landfill;
-
Lower greenhouse gas emissions through more efficient collection systems; and
-
Standardize recycling practices across Ontario.
